Contipark invests in joint venture with McParking

Germany's leading car park operator is expanding its portfolio to include off-airport parking at BER – 3,000 parking spaces fully let

"Off-Airport" parking is the name of the service provided by McParking, the new Contipark subsidiary. The special feature is the shuttle service – in addition to a safe and clean car park near the terminal at Berlin's BER airport. Passengers who have parked their cars here for the duration of their trip are shuttled to the airport free of charge. And, of course, customers are also brought back to their parked vehicles at the end of their journey. ‘This is a special kind of “car park operation” that differs from our regular business to date. With our new partner, we see a good chance of developing successfully in this market as well,’ says Contipark Managing Director Michael Kesseler.

Contipark has now acquired 50 per cent of the company shares in McParking. The other 50 per cent are held by Rixrath Holding GmbH, which also retains ownership of the car park at BER. The current location at Berlin's BER Airport has over 3,000 parking spaces, all of which are let. The car park is located in the immediate vicinity of the capital city airport's terminal. McParking has been operating successfully on the market for almost 20 years. ‘McParking occupies a leading position in this segment. They have been successful for a long time and have developed special expertise in this type of car park operation. That is why they are the ideal cooperation partner for Contipark. They are an excellent fit with our future-oriented growth strategy,’ says Andreas Knops, member of the Contipark management board and head of real estate.

McParking was founded in 2004 and initially provided parking facilities at the former Berlin-Tegel (TXL) airport. The car park at BER was completed in 2021. ‘We are pleased that we can now combine Contipark's know-how and our special expertise in airport parking in a strong joint venture. This opens up new perspectives for us for the coming years,’ says Dr. Till Bunse, Managing Director of McParking. Kai Rixrath, owner of Rixrath Holding GmbH, adds: ’With Contipark at our side, we will grow even faster with McParking. In particular, Contipark's experience in national and international car park operations will enable us to further expand our leading position as an off-airport provider.
